The draft law on the introduction of the European minimum wage in Romania will be submitted to the Government next week.
Drafted by the Labour Ministry, the document is to reflect the European directive that a country's minimum wage should be at least 50% of average income.
Currently, the gross minimum wage in Romania is 3.300 lei and will rise to 3.700 lei from 1 July.
This law will introduce into Romanian law the European Parliament and Council Directive on adequate minimum wages in the European Union, which is due to be transposed into national law on 15 November 2024.
Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said that Romanians will have salaries as close as possible to the European average.
The project for the introduction of the European minimum wage in Romania was also made public, so that Romanians will have jobs paid closer to the European average. I believe that this is what Romanians expect from us, a better standard of living and fair prices.
The Prime Minister is also scheduled to visit Germany early next week at the invitation of the Premier of Bavaria, with whom he will have bilateral talks.
In Munich, Marcel Ciolacu is scheduled to meet with representatives of the Romanian community in this area as well.
