A draft law banning military, police and law enforcement personnel from working as mercenaries or in private security services without the consent of the Romanian state enters the Parliament this week. The initiators argue that the measures contained in the document relate to national security and provide law enforcement institutions with a legal tool to deal with these disciplinary offenses.
According to the draft, failure to comply with these provisions is punishable by five to ten years in prison. The legislative initiative came after an investigation by the Defense Ministry revealed that Romanian military reservists and active MApN personnel had signed contracts with certain security companies operating in Congo.
