European Council President, Donald Tusk, has issued, on Monday, the formal invitation addressed to EU heads of state or government ahead of their informal meeting in Sibiu, Romania, on 9 May, Europe Day.
EU Summit in Sibiu will be hosted by Klaus Iohannis, President of Romania, which currently holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, will chair the meeting. European Commission President, Jean-Claude Juncker, and European Parliament President, Antonio Tajani, will also be present.
EU leaders will discuss the 2019-2024 EU Strategic Agenda, to be adopted at the European Council in June, following election of a new European Parliament and in preparation for the selection of new Commission and Council Presidents.
New Agenda is to be built on four pillars:
• Protecting citizens and freedoms;
• Developing an economic base: the European model for the future;
• Building a greener, fairer and more inclusive future;
• Promoting Europe's interests and values in the world.
“We will gather in Sibiu on Europe Day to discuss strategic plans for the Union in the years ahead”, Tusk wrote in his invitation letter. „In this context I will propose we adopt the Sibiu Declaration, sending a message of unity and confidence in our joint actions”.
