President Traian Basescu said at the Presidential Palace that he does not reject bringing forward the presidential elections.
He says that a possible overlap of presidential elections and for the European Parliament should be politically sustainable.
Basescu explained that there is already a precedent regarding the overlapping elections, the Constitutional Court rejecting the organization at the same time of purely internal elections of two types.
In this context, says Traian Basescu, no constitutional court would valid the overlap presidential elections with a referendum on a European character.
Basescu said that he agrees to accept shorter term resignation, while the parliament resigns following the amendment of the constitution.
Basescu said that "is a childhood" that presidential elections to be held in May-June and the new elected president to take office in December, while the current mandate at Cotroceni ends on December the 22nd.
USL proposed Wednesday to merge with euro-presidential elections.
Prime Minister Victor Ponta said it would be very good for Romania that in 2014 the European elections to be with the presidential elections.
"Next year, if there is any constitutional possibility, we will discuss it, I have informed the president on this - either to have a second term reduced by a few months, or to have a system where you have the elections at the same time with PE and enter the term in office when the president mandate expires, "said Victor Ponta.
Traian Basescu: "I wanted to clarify some issues from the hand of politicians"
President Traian Basescu also said he talked to at the Parliament on Tuesday evening with Prime Minister Victor Ponta and presidents of the two chambers of parliament, Crin Antonescu and Valeriu Zgonea on the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism and Romania's accession to Schengen.
The President explained that he wanted to clarify issues "that are in the hands of politicians."
He said he urged USL to clarify the situation of lawmakers with problems, reminding him in this situation of Ion Stan, Laszlo Borbely and Victor Paul Dobre.
Basescu added that he asked that on Monday to validate two alternate members of the CSM.
He said he addressed the issue of entry into force as soon as possible of the Code of Civil Procedure.
Basescu said that the document should enter into force on February the 1st.
