Dialogue continued in Bucharest between the authorities and representatives of hauliers and farmers on the fifth day of protests. Meetings were held at the Ministry of Finance, after yesterday's talks with Agriculture and Transport officials led to agreed solutions.
The main grievance that has brought people out on the streets - the price of MTPL policies - is again being discussed with the Financial Supervisory Authority.
The management of the ASF has announced that it is working on changes to the legislation that will ultimately result in lower prices, the discontinuation of MTPL for seasonal activities and the possibility of payment in instalments.
One of the participants in the discussions, farmer Adelin Maria from Craiova, on one of the protesters' demands:
Adelin Maria: In the current situation, insurance for one month is half the price of insurance for one year. It's not fair. People are very angry. We are trying to discuss even a proportionality of the insurance for one month, i.e. to have a formula like the monthly cost of the insurance equals the annual cost divided by 12 months. The risk is the same. We do not have a higher risk if we drive a truck or a lorry or a tractor for a month than if we drive a year.
The meeting with farmers and hauliers was also attended by the Minister of Finance, as well as representatives of the Financial Supervisory Authority, the Customs Department and the Prefect of the Capital.
