RADIO ROMANIA NEWS - NATO states are increasing their defense spending in the context of Russia's aggression in Ukraine.
Romania is one of the 13 countries of the Alliance, together with Finland, which signed a letter of intent for the development of a common air defense shield - called the European Sky Shield.
The initiative belongs to Germany, and the European shield could be equipped with the Arrow 3 missile interception system, developed by Israel, and the American Patriot.
The placement of such anti-missile batteries in several countries would allow a complete and effective defense of the European airspace.
Also, the costs will be lower for each individual state, said in Brussels, where the document was signed, the deputy general secretary of the North Atlantic Alliance, Mircea Geoana.
Mircea Geoana: "The goal is to allow European allies to procure these much-needed equipment more easily and quickly, but also to optimize their costs. States will also need to coordinate their emergencies to cover the full spectrum of air and missile defense needs. It is an important effort to obtain additional resources and ensure that these facilities are procured and operational as quickly as possible."
