Romanian Justice Minister Tudorel Toader has scheduled a meeting on Tuesday with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) President, to discuss how Romania met the ECHR requirements for detention conditions and treatment of prisoners.
Last week, Romanian Justice Minister had announced that, after the Memorandum with the Roadmap for meeting the Court’s demands would be subject to the Government's approval, it would be sent to the Court on January 22.
In April 2017, the ECHR asked the Romanian state to submit, in cooperation with the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, a calendar of actions to reduce overcrowding and improve prison conditions by January 25 this year.
