In the context of the debate in the Parliament, the Minister of Defense, Angel Tilvar, explained, on Radio Romania News, that the reduction of military pensions would lead to the rapid departure of thousands of people from the system, a shock difficult for the Army to absorb:
Angel Tilvar: The reduction of military pensions, which I do not agree with, would lead, in addition to the fact that this job would lose its attractiveness, it would also lead to an exit from the system. At the present time, even the figures that my collaborators communicated to me are not in a position to make us optimistic.
That's almost 7.000 people who meet the conditions to go into reserve under the current system.
They are all very experienced people, many are in command positions, and it will be impossible for the military system to absorb the shock of their departure in such a short time.
I consider that military pensions are not special pensions.
If we have comparative approaches with other armies in the world and in Europe, we will see that the Romanian soldiers are not privileged in some way, on the contrary, many of them - and I want to express my appreciation for the fact that they did their duty towards the country - many soldiers have been in theaters of operations, many soldiers have gained experience and skill in the military field, which makes them irreplaceable.
