The magistrates of the Supreme Court decided that the Vice President of the Senate, Dan Voiculescu, collaborated with the secret police, dismissing the challenge to the ruling issued by the Court of Appeal. The decision is final, Radio România Actualităţi editor, Diana Surdu, informs.

Senator Dan Voiculescu posted on his blog a reaction to the ruling issued by the Supreme Court, claiming that it was not a fair ruling and that he would take the case to the European Court of Human Rights.

‘It is a totally unjust ruling that reflects the high pressures put on the magistrates. The case will be moved to ECHR! The ruling issued by the High Court of Cassation and Justice gives me the possibility to take this case to an independent European court, that will be object to no suspicion’, Dan Voiculescu wrote on his blog.

In August 2006, the National Council for the Study of the Securitate Archives (CNSAS) decided that Dan Voiculescu collaborated with the former secret police.

CNSAS manages a part of the Securitate files and one of its attributions is to verify whether public persons collaborated with the secret police before 1989 or not.

The conclusions of the CNSAS were sent to court, so that the Supreme Court could decide whether the person involved was a secret police collaborator or not.

On 17 February, the Supreme Court closed the debate regarding the challenge to the ruling issued by the Court of Appeal according to which Dan Voiculescu was a secret police collaborator.

The High Court of Cassation and Justice initially announced that a ruling would be issued on 3 March, but the date was postponed to 10 March.
