The EU supports cities in developing smart projects such as energy transition, urban mobility, air quality or housing, European Commissioner Corina Crețu told a conference in Bucharest.
Through the 2014-2020 Cohesion Policy, 120 billion euros are invested in urban areas, of which approximately 15 billion euros are directly managed by cities.
In a telephone message sent from Brussels, European Commissioner Corina Crețu encouraged mayors to ask for funding if they had innovative ideas and welcomed the initiatives in the cities of Constanța, Alba Iulia and the capital.
Corina Creţu: "It's also the case of Bucharest, where the “Create” project is looking for long-term solutions for traffic decongestion, it is the “UrbanWINS” project, winners of urban agenda, testing solutions for better prevention and better management of waste. I am proud to say that these initiatives are an example for other European cities and I am convinced that there will be more examples in the future. Now is the time to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by the EU".
