Commemoration of military heroes, on Veterans Day

The Romanian Army soldiers who died in the theaters of operations were commemorated yesterday morning at the Heroes' Monument in the Youth Park in Bucharest, in a small ceremony, attended by Prime Minister Ludovic Orban and the Minister of Defense Nicolae Ciuca.
November 11, which has become Veterans Day in 2014, recalls the sacrifice of post-mortem lieutenant Iosif Silviu Fogoras, the first Romanian soldier to die in 2003 in the theater of operations in Afghanistan.
Since then, 30 Romanian soldiers have died in missions abroad, and almost 200 have been wounded. Currently, approximately 1.000 Romanian Army soldiers work outside the national territory.
As in Bucharest, in the other garrisons with military units that performed missions in the theaters of operations, military and religious ceremonies were organized in a small format yesterday.
