Cohesion Policy is the priority of Romania's Presidency of the Council of the European Union; at national level, respect of the rule of law, fight against corruption and the rights of citizens. These assurances were made by Romanian Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă in Brussels, in the plenary session of European Committee of Regions.
Regarding accession to Schengen, Prime Minister reaffirmed on the same occasion that Romania fulfills even from 2011 the technical criteria for joining this free movement area.
RRA Correspondent in Brussels, Amalia Bojescu: "European Union needs to demonstrate it has ability to advance in strengthening European policies, to achieve tangible results for citizens – this is the message delivered by PM Viorica Dăncilă in plenary of the European Committee of the Regions. Cohesion Policy remains a priority for Romania, Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă said: "Strengthening social cohesion requires ensuring economic convergence at European level. We therefore need a fully functioning single market, free competition and transparent and fair rules of active mobility in all its dimensions".
Responding to a question regarding respect for the rule of law in Romania, PM Viorica Dăncilă reiterated that fight against corruption and protection of citizens' rights is a priority and added that information on this subject is not in line with reality.
Viorica Dăncilă: "I guarantee that both anti-corruption fight and the rule of law, as well as the citizens' rights will be a priority for me. I want to tell you that the Romanian Government has taken only one decision on Justice, a single Emergency Ordinance of the Romanian Government to put into practice recommendations from the Venice Commission. All these accusations regarding the Romanian Government, the fact that we do not put into effect certain aspects, are not proved by reality".
