Children's Ombudsman in Romania - a distinct structure within the Ombudsman institution, set up at the request of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child - will start to function, following promulgation of the draft law by President Klaus Iohannis.
Program Director of the Save the Children Organization, George Roman, explains RRA exactly what the Child's Ombudsman will do:
George Roman: Children’s Ombudsman takes over the information, addresses the public administration on behalf of the child, requests the stop of the child abuse or the punishment of all those responsible for the child abuse. If these requests will not be considered, Children’s Ombudsman can go further, addressing the Minister in charge with the respective institutional area or the representative of the Government in the territory, and last but not least, Children’s Ombudsman can file requests for legal action or make criminal complaints. Ombudsman for Children does not apply law enforcement or does not implement policies, but monitors the respect of these laws, to the extent that it is notified by parents or children.
