Children between the ages of 12 and 15 can be vaccinated with the Pfizer-BioNTech serum against COVID-19.
The European Medicines Agency authorized the vaccine for this age group two days ago, and Romania would make the first appointments next week.
It is the first vaccine to receive the green light to immunize teenagers in the 27 EU member states.
Tests in the United States, where young people have already been vaccinated, have shown that the serum is 100 percent effective.
In Europe, 2.000 children were included in the clinical study and none of them got infected with the virus compared to 16 infections reported in the placebo group.
The European Medicines Agency has recommended that each state decide when and how to administer the vaccine. Romania will start the procedures for approving the serum.
The president of the National Coordinating Committee of the Immunization Campaign, doctor Valeriu Gheroghita, announced that from next week it will be possible to schedule vaccinations for children aged 12-15.
The Minister of Health, Ioana Mihaila, also declared that our country will start vaccinating minors as soon as possible, but the consent of parents will also be required.
