Romania is ranked on the first place in the European Union in terms of area cultivation with corn and as a production is ranked on the second place, with over 11 million tonnes.
According to data provided by the National Institute of Statistics, overall, domestic production of cereals increased last year by more than 24 per cent, which means that it overtakes more than 20 million tons.
Romania occupies the fifth place in the European Union to the production of wheat.
According to the National Institute of Statistics, the area cultivated with wheat, maize, barley and oats grew up, just like the one with sunflower.
The National Institute of Statistics conclusion is that the last year was a very good one, in terms of agriculture, and that thanks to the favourable weather conditions.
Agriculture is one of the areas that affects, to a large extent, the gross domestic product.
The economic growth since last year was supported, in particular, by the evolution of agriculture.
The National Commission of Prognosis considers that the agricultural production will be as good as the one since 2012, helping to increase GDP by about 1.7 per cent.
