Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) sustained an objection on Wednesday over election of Teodor Meleșcanu as Senate President, finding the election unconstitutional.
Meleșcanu has announced he does not resign until the decision of the Constitutional and its motivation will not be published in the Official Gazette.
Following CCR’s decision, the Social Democratic Party (PSD) said it would come up with a proposal for the post of Senate president, after consulting with party's governing boards.
Also on Wednesday, Prime Minister Ludovic Orban announced that the National Liberal Party (PNL) will nominate Alina Gorghiu for the leadership of the Senate. She has already been voted in the Political Bureau to run for this position.
