30th Moutain Battalion "Carpathians' Eagles" deployed in Afghanistan is back in Romania at full capacity after successfully completing its six-month difficult mission. Repatriation ceremony has taken place on Thursday morning in Câmpulung Muscel, Argeș County, and has been attended by Romanian Ministry of Defense, Mihai Fifor and US Ambassador to Bucharest, Hans Klemm.
Mission of the "Carpathians' Eagles" was to defend Kandahar military base and prepare the Afghan military troops in the region. It was the third mission of this battalion, after Afghanistan (2008) and Kosovo (2005-2007).
Mihai Fifor:It cannot be a more beautiful day than this, when we find that the all of our soldiers are back home safe. We also cannot help thinking of all those who lost their lives in theaters of operations, all of the 29 heroes of the Romanian Army who fell in the line of duty in warzones.
RRA Reporter, Cristian Matei: Ceremony in Câmpulung has been attended also by US Ambassador to Bucharest, Hans Klemm, who praised the way Romania has respected its commitments as a strategic partner since 2002, when the first Romanian soldiers were heading to Afghanistan.
Hans Klemm: United States Armed Forces Commanders have the highest respect for the skills, courage and commitment of the Romanian troops and have been honored to fight with them in Afghanistan, Iraq or elsewhere.
