Canada’s Air Task Force (ATF) in Romania has successfully completed its four-month deployment within NATO’s Air Policing Mission and its personnel will return home later this month, as Canadian Ministry of Defense has announced on Thursday.
ATF Romania - composed of approximately 135 Canadian Forces personnel and five CF-18 Hornets - was deployed at Mihail Kogălniceanu Military Air Base in Constanţa County, near the Black Sea.
ATF is the air component of Operation Reassurance - Canadian Armed Forces' activities in support of NATO assurance and deterrence measures through the provision of military capabilities for training, exercises, demonstrations, and assigned NATO tasks.
NATO has been conducting, since 2014, collective air-policing patrols in Central and Eastern Europe, within its Readiness Action Plan, on a rotational basis. Aside of the 2018 four-months mission, Canadian Air Force has also participated in missions in Romania in 2014 and 2017.
Canadian soldiers deployed in Romania since September 2018 are returning home in January.
