Romania's longest water main is nearing completion. It will carry water from Cluj to Salaj.
The pipeline is a long-awaited investment in Salaj, a county with major problems in providing drinking water, especially in the communes.
Director of the Public Health Directorate of Salaj, Ligia Marincas: We hope to have it completed by the end of the year, as we were informed at the meetings we attended. It will ensure water quality in all units.
The water supply project in Cluj county is a complex one, Vasile Daraban - Regional Association for the Development of Infrastructure in the Somes-Tisa River Basin - said on several occasions.
Vasile Daraban: We are solving a big problem of the people of Salaj, namely the water supply from the Tarnita source, i.e. we will build a pipeline of about 80 km, the main pipeline that will bring quality water from Lake Tarnita, and from that pipeline about 10 branches will be connected, which will provide drinking water in most of the communes.
At present, most of the drinking water needed by the population of Salaj county is supplied from the Varsolt source.
