Italy's Prysmian, a global leader in cable production, has the largest cable production plant in Europe, located in Slatina, Romania. Thousands of Romanians are employed there, and now dozens of young people and IT specialists can start a career in the new offices in Bucharest. The total investment in Prysmian's IT Centre of Excellence in Bucharest amounts to around €40 million over six years. Of this, €7.5 million is part of state aid from the Romanian state, obtained in 2022.
Prysmian employees based in the capital will also work in the Prysmian space in the Pipera area. Thus Prysmian's factory processes will be more efficiently managed and this will both save time spent travelling to Slatina and help increase productivity.
The Ambassador of Italy in Bucharest, His Excellency Alfredo Maria Durante Mangoni: I am honoured to be here to see the kick-off of the new Centre of Excellence, with employees working towards a digital transition, making a huge contribution to the European Union economy. This is what we need today. We see that Prysmian is one of the most dynamic players in the beautiful partnership that Romania has with Italy. There are more than 200 Italian companies in Romania and we even talked about this at the Economic Forum in Rome. Prysmian is the best example of friendship between Romania and Italy. This field of communications needs fresh energy, clean, innovative and creative minds, and Romania is leading the way in this respect, added Italian Ambassador Alfredo Maria Durante Mangoni.
Terente Ciui, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism took part in the event in Bucharest: The Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism implements the Government Strategy and Programme in all areas of the economy, in line with market requirements and to stimulate the initiative of economic operators. We congratulated Prysmian for all the work it carries out in the industry producing cables, energy solutions, cables and telecommunication systems. It is well known that Prysmian Romania's IT Centre of Excellence is a very important project of the group that recognizes Romania's high specialization in IT, and thus wants to develop a hub in Bucharest that will fully manage the IT production operations of all facilities, he added.
