Representatives of the Romanian financial-banking system welcome decision of FTSE Russell Agency to promote the Bucharest Stock Exchange from the status of "Frontier market" to the status of "Emerging market".
Only a few hours after the announcement of FTSE Russel – one of world biggest global index providers - first results appeared and the Bucharest Stock Exchange recorded transactions of over 15 million lei.
Status of "Emerging market" allows Romania to have access to investment funds 30 times higher compared to the previous period.
"The biggest achievement of Romania in economic-financial plan in recent years", "A historical decision, reflecting the extraordinary steps taken by the authorities to increase attractiveness of the Bucharest stock market", "More money to finance companies", "The functioning of a modern and well-regulated financial system" - this is how representatives of the Romanian financial-banking field and the ministers holding portfolios in the economic ministries cataloged FTSE announcement.
Bucharest Stock Exchange has aimed for the status of Emerging market for almost ten years, while it was on a watch list.
Reclassification of the status will come into force in September next year.
84 companies are listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange on the main market, with a combined capitalization of 36 billion euros.
