More than half a century has passed since its first documentary mention. Inhabitants of Bucharest had the opportunity to go out and take part in festivals, exhibitions, fairs, parades and concerts.
The event, called ‘Bucharest Days’, started on Friday in the old city center, where many domestic artists played live. The starting day was wrapped up by the White Night of Romanian Film, and film lovers could see over 30 Romanian films free of charge.
On Saturday was held the traditional Flower Fight, a parade of period tramways, walks through the so-called ‘nomadic gardens’, cooking fairs and concerts held by famous foreign guitarists.
On the same day, under the name ‘Feast on the Beltway’, the first pedestrian tourist routes were inaugurated, animated by volunteers in period costumes. Part of the route were the Romanian Peasant Museum, the ‘George Enescu’ Museum, the ‘Grigore Antipa Museum of Natural Sciences, and the Geology Museum. The day’s highlight was an air show with parachute jumps.
On Sunday, the main gathering points were Constitution Square and the History Center, where beer festivals were held. Bucharesters also enjoyed Argentinean tango shows held by famous artists from Buenos Aires, magic shows, and an exhibition that included an exhibition with a selection of works from contemporary fine artists.
To the delight of participants, there were also free boat rides, the Bucharest Student Parade, and a tour of the historic center of the capital by the Gendarme Corps Brass Band. On a more serious note, this weekend of fun is expected to be followed by a week of trade union protests.
