Producer - Romanians who work in Austria and have been deprived of allowances for their children left at home will receive the amounts. The Court of Justice of the European Union decided in June that the Government of Vienna illegally cut, three years ago, allowances for the children of Romanians working in Austria. Nicoleta Stoica from Radio Romania International with details.
Reporter: The decision of the Court of Justice comes after when in 2019 the European Commission launched an infringement procedure against Austria for the controversial law on the adjustment of allowances granted to the children of foreign workers who do not live with their parents on Austrian territory. According to the Austrian authorities, starting from July 2022 family allowances for Romanian citizens who work in Austria and whose children have permanent residence in another member state, for example in Romania, will be paid at the level of Austrian allowances without being indexed. In addition, the payment to citizens who were affected by the indexation measure, starting January 1, 2019, will be made automatically at the beginning of August 2022 if the relevant tax authorities have up-to-date bank data.
