RADIO ROMANIA NEWS (October 23) - "Radiojournal" - Producer: Nicoleta Turcu - The representatives of the education unions and those of the Government are also discussing the salaries of teachers and auxiliary staff at this time. It is the second round of consultations this month, as pay rises agreed during the end-of-school year general strike are linked to the new, yet-to-be-finalised unitary pay law. The RRA reporter, Petruta Obrejan, follows the subject and now comes with live details.
Reporter: Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, Minister of Education Ligia Deca and Minister of Labor, Bucura Oprescu, are talking with the representatives of the education unions, and, as you said, it is the second round of negotiations regarding the increase in teachers' salaries from January 1 2024 as they were promised during the strike.
Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said that motivated teachers are needed, and the Minister of Education Ligia Deca recently stated that all the commitments made will be respected.
Moreover, this month, teaching and auxiliary staff will receive the sum of 1.500 lei as a career bonus and 500 lei for non-teaching staff as a professional career bonus.
If the unitary wage law will not be ready in time, the Executive intends to find other solutions, said Ligia Deca, a technical solution so that the promised increases can be applied on January 1 next year.
We will find out what the conclusions are after this meeting, if there will be further rounds of negotiations.
