Florina Pompilian, the head of the Intensive Care Unit at St. Pantelimon Hospital in Bucharest, arrived on Tuesday at the Homicide Department of the Capital Police to be heard in the case in which two female doctors were remanded in custody for allegedly causing the death of a patient hospitalized in intensive care.
According to RRA reporter Diana Surdu, the doctor did not give a statement to journalists upon entering the hearing.
Last week, Florina Pompilian announced that all the doctors in the ICU ward would resign from their posts, which did not happen after a discussion with the health minister. She then questioned the investigation launched by prosecutors in the case and defended the two doctors, who are accused of premeditated murder and attempted murder.
The Public Prosecutor's Office of the Bucharest Tribunal is investigating 5 other cases of suspicious death at "Sfantul Pantelimon"
The autopsies of patients who also died in April are still to be analyzed, before the 17 deaths registered in intensive care in just a few days.
Prosecutors say that at least five such complaints from hospitals arrive daily at the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Capital, and over time there have also been reports from the "St. Pantelimon" Hospital.
