The transatlantic relationship remains the essential pillar of collective security, says Defense Minister Angel Tilvar, in a message delivered on the occasion of NATO Day and the 21st anniversary of Romania's accession to the North Atlantic Alliance.
This act has provided Romania with the most solid security guarantees, he added.
Angel Tilvar: Joining the North Atlantic Alliance was an essential step towards strengthening our security and stability, and demonstrated Romania's commitment to democratic values. All this has allowed economic development and prosperity. The values promoted by the Washington Treaty, in particular the profound significance of Article 5 on collective defense, were and remain essential landmarks in which Romanians strongly believe. This day is also an occasion to recognize all those who have contributed to the achievement of this national objective. A crucial role has been played by the Romanian military and the Romanian Army, through their successful participation in international missions, their professionalism, adaptability and the awareness that they are ambassadors of Romania at all times.
The Minister of Defense participated, on Monday, in the Focsani garrison, at the ceremony dedicated to NATO Day in Romania.
