Former World and Olympic champion Andreea Răducan is the new President of the Romanian Gymnastics Federation (FRG). She was voted almost unanimously by the affiliated members who were present at the General Election Assembly held on Friday at the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Răducan, 33, won the mandate for the 2017-2021 legislature with 42 votes for, one being cancelled, out of the 43 affiliated members of the Federation, who were present at the General Assembly elections (43 present from a total of 51).
At the end of the General Assembly, Andreea Răducan said it was time to restart the "Engines of the Romanian Gymnastics".
"It is an important moment for me, for the Romanian Gymnastics. I am glad that people have no prejudices and gave me a vote of confidence. I wish most of the enthusiasm that I have can spread to the whole breath of the Romanian Gymnastics. I think it's time we restarted the engines of the Romanian Gymnastics, "the FRG President said.
Andreea Răducan (33 years old) also said that a careful analysis should be made for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics so that the situation from Rio in 2016, when the Romanian teams missed the qualification.
"First of all, for Tokyo 2020, I wish we won’t be in the same situation we were last year in Rio. It was an extremely unpleasant event for all of us who love gymnastics". It is an important moment to focus on these teams so that we can be present in Tokyo. In the FRG Presidential Chair, the former gymnast follows Adrian Stoica , who has been the President of the Romanian Gymnastics Federation for the past 11 years.
