An important network of euro and lei counterfeiters has been taken down

Half a million counterfeit euros were confiscated by the police, Europol announced in a press release.
The counterfeit money from that network, manufactured in Romania, was detected in circulation on the territory of at least ten EU member states.
Ten people have been detained, European crime organization Europol announced on Thursday. According to the Europol statement, the criminal organization, made up of Romanians, forged, in addition to the 50 EUR, 100 EUR and 500 EUR banknotes, Romanian money.
Other than the European Central Bank, the Romanian, Austrian, Belgian, German and Spanish authorities participated in the operation. Following the searches carried out at 28 homes, ten suspects were detained and, apart from half a million euro banknotes, 16 thousand real euros were seized, as well as a large amount of lei.
