The resort minister, Stelian Fuia, said on Friday that another option that would have the same effect, involves the establishment of a land bank, in order to give priority to Romanians.
’The land should remain in Romanians property, to be worked by them and in the interest of national economy.’
’Taking into consideration the situation of accession treaty, experts from Agriculture Ministry are currently studying options to mantain the land in Romanian farmers exploitation.’
Stelian Fuia sustains that an option is the establishment of a land bank with double goals, both to have priority, right of pre-announcement to purchase land, and to ensure the fusion of small parcels, fragmented by the field.
’The second option that we have initiated, which belongs to European Affairs Ministry , is trying to renegotiate the treaty of acccession’, said the minister of agriculture.
Two days ago, Stelian Fuia declared that chances of blocking the land sales to the foreigners after 2013 are extremely low, because it is almost impossible to change the treaty of Romania’s accession to European Union(UE) , which contains this clause.
On February 22 the minister said that he wants the foreigners to be forbidden to buy agricultural fields in Romania, even after the end of 2013, when the ban included in the treaty of accession expires.
Currently, foreign citezens can only buy land through registered companies in Romania.
