Agreement with General Dynamics for wheeled armored vehicles
The Romanian Ministry of Economy and Romarm, through Uzina Mecanica Bucharest, and the American company General Dynamics have signed today a Memorandum.

Romania’s Government has signed today a Memorandum of Understanding with the US group General Dynamics for the production and delivery of wheeled armored vehicles to the Romanian Armed Forces.
The Memorandum of Understanding between Romania and the United States sets out the preliminary guidelines for cooperation as well as future actions aimed at establishing a joint venture between Uzina Mecanica Bucharest and General Dynamics to produce armored vehicles for the Romanian Army, according to a Romanian Government press release.
US company General Dynamics owns the Swiss Mowag - manufacturer of armored vehicles.
According to the signed documents, the two sides are comitted to collaborate, in accordance with the assumed objectives regarding the endowment of the Romanian Armed Forces, in view of the production and delivery of Piranha 5 armored vehicles to the Romanian Ministry of National Defense.
Within the future company, Uzina Mecanica Bucharest will participate with assets consisting of manufacturing lines and staff, who will undergo training courses at the headquarters of the American company. General Dynamics will participate in this joint venture with investments for upgrading production capabilities and integrating armored vehicle production.
"The conclusion of this collaboration between a state-owned company in Romania and the American company General Dynamics is an extraordinary moment for the Romanian defense industry," said Romanian Prime Minister Mihai Tudose.
Deputy Prime Minister Ion Marcel Ciolacu, Economy Minister Gheorghe Simon, National Defense Minister Mihai-Viorel Fifor and US Ambassador to Romania Hans Klemm also attended the signing ceremony.
