The President of the Permanent Electoral Authority, Toni Grebla, has warned that there are still a number of technical problems to be solved for the referendum in Bucharest, and the time left for its organization, with the first round of the presidential elections on November 24, is very short.
In addition, he noted that, according to the law, the initiator of a popular consultation must also bear the costs of organizing it, and the necessary money must be allocated by the General Council of Bucharest.
Toni Grebla: There is no budget, there is no calendar of activities, there is no technical committee at City Hall to deal with the activities that need to be carried out to organize the referendum. The problem is further on, from the polling stations, these minutes that determine the result of the referendum questions, go where? To the Bucharest Municipal Electoral Office. The Bucharest Electoral Office does not exist under the new law.
The law on holding the referendum in Bucharest came into force on Friday, but the authorities have not yet been able to agree on how to organize this popular consultation.
General Mayor Nicusor Dan mentioned he was struggling with bureaucracy in some institutions, but said he was convinced that the Central Electoral Bureau would sort out the technical details and the government would intervene if necessary.
