Administrative-territorial reorganization ‘is required’
The Prime Minister said that Romania might lose European funds because of the administrative-territorial legislation that ‘no longer meets the criteria for granting European funds.’

Prime Minister Emil Boc proposed at the meeting with the members of the Parliament from the Liberal Democratic Party (PDL) support for a draft law on administrative-territorial reorganization.
The proposal will be discussed in the coalition.
The Prime Minister stated that the reorganization is necessary because the legislation is very old and no longer meets the criteria for granting funds.
‘If we do not do this reform, Romania will seriously diminished its chances to continue receiving European money until 2013, because in Europe money is given for the absorption on the administrative component, on the near-regional structures, and what we have today is not of national interest’, Emil Boc said.
PDL will also propose the Opposition to discuss the draft administrative-territorial reorganization.
The Opposition supports the establishment of regions with management structure
The Opposition has, however, a proposal on this subject that has been incorporated in its political programme.
The liberals support the establishment of regions with elected management structure that would include two to four counties.
One of the authors of the liberal government programme, deputy Victor Paul Dobre argues that the territorial reorganization is currently required.
‘Currently, the lack of regions towards which to direct the money that now Bucharest is receiving would have allowed a better absorption of the EU funds and probably a more significant development in terms of long term development’, Victor Paul Dobre said .
A common position of the Liberal Party and the Social Democratic Party (PSD) is expected later this week, when the USL programme will be presented to the Government.
