Romania's European Commissioner-designate for Transport, Adina Vălean, has received on Thursday approval from European Parliament’s Transport Committee (TRAN). Ecological, fair and transparent transport, as well as reduction of road accidents, a chapter in which Romania is the worst of EU countries – are among priorities of Vălean for the EU Transport Commissioner portfolio.
RRA Correspondent in Brussels, Amalia Bojescu: "Right to free movement is highly appreciated by EU citizens, and transport sector makes this possible", stressed Adina Vălean during hearings in the Committee on Transport. Mobility and transport are the backbone of the EU internal market and they support the freedom of movement of citizens and goods. They connect people and help strengthen cohesion within the European Union. I ask for your trust and support to ensure that transport is appropriate for Europe, it is fair, sustainable and transparent". Vălean has listed her main priorities, among which are safe transport, clean and sustainable mobility, an ecosystem of smart mobility, fair and inclusive mobility, and investments in infrastructure and services.
French candidate for the Internal Market portfolio, Thierry Breton, has also received a positive opinion in the EP specialized committee.
Instead, Hungary's Commissioner-designate for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy, Olivér Várhelyi, will have to respond in writing to questions from MEPs before they approve his appointment".
