Additional Romanian military forces to be sent to Afghanistan
New US strategy in Afghanistan aims to increase with 3000 soldiers the deployed personnel in the theater of operations and to ensure additional fighting techniques.

Romania will contribute, alongside its NATO partners, with additional military forces in Afghanistan. Bucharest supports NATO’s mission multi-annual plan in Afghanistan, which targests taking over of the authority in the region by the Afghan forces, by 2020.
Radio Romania News Special Envoy in Afghanistan, Ilie Pintea - referring to the missions of the Romanian battalion currently deployed in Afghanistan and to the work of the Romanian Train Advise Assist teams - reports that the new US strategy aims to increase with 3000 soldiers the deployed personnel in the theater of operations. Next year, allied partners will bring both increased number of staff and additional fighting techniques.
Romania too joins this effort and will send more troops in the area. Train Advise Assist Command-South, Kandahar, Col. Ştefan Stan, head of the liaison team and senior national representative in Afghanistan's theater of operations: "Support forces, especially aviation forces, will increase to be able to sustain Afghan security forces during offensive actions".
Security situation in Afghanistan is currently unstable, insurgency is more active than usual.
Ştefan Stan: Afghan security forces, with the advice of the coalition forces and with support from the American forces, have managed to take over control in the theater of operations.
Romanian Soldiers from the 280th Infantry Battalion Protection of the "Brave Hearts" Force are currently deployed in Kandahar, also a Train and Advise Team, which join Resolute Supports’ efforts to facilitate the taking-over of responsibilities in the area by the Afghan forces.
