Actors, directors and theater directors are not satisfied with the government's proposal to reduce the expenses of cultural institutions, including the alleged merger of such institutions that have fewer employees.
They signed an online petition, which they submitted to the prime minister and the minister of culture, as the director of the German Theater in the city, Lucian Varsandan, told Radio Romania Timisoara:
"In Timisoara also, just like in other cities, the needs of these theaters are covered by very small amounts from the budget of the authority from which they feed. Here, last year, for example, the budget of the German State Theater represented 0.6% of the budget of the municipality of Timisoara, that is, we are not discussing some sums which, compared to the benefit for the cultural identity of a people, do not represent something so significant. At the level of the municipality of Bucharest, the budget of all cultural institutions subordinated to the Bucharest City Hall, last year, where we are talking about 15 theaters, eight cultural centers, the Metropolitan Circus, etc., represented 3.1% of the capital's budget", said the director of the German Theater in Timisoara, Lucian Varsandan.
