A new Sikorsky "Black Hawk" helicopter, equipped for fighting forest fires, will be operationalized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The purchase of this helicopter was entirely financed by European funds and it will be used not only in Romania, but anywhere in Europe.
Florentina Varga has details: "Romania has already received seven Black Hawk helicopters", said the head of the Department for Emergency Situations, Dr. Raed Arafat, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Interior. However, this new helicopter will be coordinated at European level by the European civil protection mechanism.
Raed Arafat: "We are talking about a helicopter that will be coordinated at European level by the European civil protection mechanism. This is 100% funding from the European Union, through which intervention equipment has been contracted, and Romania is contracting the first RescEU helicopter, which will be made available to the European Commission. The helicopter will be operated by the General Aviation Inspectorate and will be located in Romania, but when necessary, it can be mobilized anywhere in Europe."
