A builder from Turkey, who also worked on the metro in Dubai, associated with two domestic companies, won the tender for the design and execution of the Cluj Napoca Metro Line - the largest transport infrastructure contract in Romania.
The builder calculated the cost of building the 21-kilometer line, with 19 stations, at 9 billion lei. From this amount, 1.5 billion lei funding is provided by the NRRP, intended for the works on the structure of the first nine stations.
The contract is a turnkey type - work at stations, tunnels, installations and the supply of Driverless subway frames, i.e. without a train driver.
The duration of design and execution is 8 years, and the contract can only be signed if no objections are filed within 10 days. In October 2022, two builders from Turkey submitted bids to the auction launched by Cluj Napoca City Hall.
