On reaching 95 years since the Union of Bessarabia with Romania, in several parts of the country, from the Republic of Moldova and other states take place events marking this historical event.
At Parliament House was held a meeting attended by politicians, cultural people, historians, researchers from both sides of Prut.
Romania supports Moldova's European course, said President of the Chamber of Deputies, Valeriu Zgonea.
In his opinion, the neighboring country has to become in a very short time a member of the European Union.
“The Romanian nation lives in two states, Romania and Moldova.”
“We are not the only ones in the world that have this chance of history that we live, which is something unequivocally demonstrated by projects, that today Romania supports Moldova's European course.”
“Our common objective is that Moldova to become an EU country in a very short time, as soon as we can do it physically, historically, so that people understand, accept European values, to cultivate them, to transfer them as a normal identity model, as we see it happening in South East and Central Europe”, said Valeriu Zgonea.
Deputy Eugen Tomac, historian, Chairman of the Diaspora from the Chamber of Deputies about the significance of this day:
“Often, this important aspect is neglected, namely that Bessarabia was the first province that has taken the first step towards unification in 1918.”
“This is a further demonstration that beyond Prut there are Romanians, Romanian language, of course, the Soviet era has left its mark, but that does not mean Romanian identity and spirituality are not there, which is why we should reflect upon this date and think about what we can do for the
future so that people do not lose the hope and the ideal”, said Deputy Eugen Tomac.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova in Bucharest, Iurie Renita, has called for concrete joint projects among others reminiscent of Iasi-Chisinau pipeline project.
"There are two fundamental aspects in which Bucharest, Romania, is –but it would be necessary to involve even in a more active manner –advanced, it is about firm and unconditional support along Moldova's European path and secondly, about energy projects”, said Eugen Tomac.
