70% of the country's territory is affected by drought

70% of the country's territory is affected by drought, the Minister of Environment, Tanczos Barna, announced today. He appealed to the population to use rationally the drinking water distributed by the local networks and not to use it for watering the gardens.

The 40 accumulation lakes of strategic importance have a filling degree of 68%, which allows them to ensure the strategic water reserve. Upon entering the country, the Danube has a low water level of 3.000 l / s, but this does not affect the proper functioning of the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant, said the Minister of Environment and Water, Tanczos Barna.

A new heat wave is expected from July 15, which will aggravate the drought, and in this context Tanczos Barna again asked the population to use rationally drinking water from the local network, only for their own consumption and not for crops.

"I appeal to those who use drinking water that enters the yard through the pipe. That water should not be used for agricultural purposes because it is not water that has been produced for this purpose. Excessive increase in consumption during this dry period endangers exactly the respective locality. It endangers the security of the drinking water supply exactly in the locality where it is not understood that, unfortunately, for a few weeks it will have to not use this water for irrigation ", says Tanczos Barna.

The Minister also announced that in the following days torrential rains are announced in relatively small areas with rainfall of 30-40 or even 50 l / m2.
