Victoria Palace, the seat of government, the Arc de Triomphe, Bucharest City Hall, the Royal Palace and the National Library are among the 43 official buildings and monuments that will be lit up in orange on Saturday night to mark World Cancer Day.
In Romania, oncological diseases are the second major cause of mortality, after cardiovascular diseases, and from this year in our country the national plan to combat cancer would be applied.
Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca stated that the executive is concerned with ensuring infrastructure and innovative therapeutic alternatives and supports investments in the development of high-profile centers.
For its part, the Ministry of Health conveys that this disease can be controlled if prevention, early diagnosis and access to therapy are non-discriminatory. The institution states that in 2022, 21 new molecules were introduced for oncology patients, and the prevention policy received significant support through the possibility of the HPV vaccine settlement during this year.
However, doctors draw attention to the fact that in Romania there is no culture of cancer prevention and most of the time patients reach specialists only when the disease has passed the initial phase.
According to the president of the Oncohelp Timisoara Association, Serban Negru, mortality is higher in Romania due to the absence of screening programs and a clear circuit for oncological patients.
