400 semi-automatic defibrillators for people with heart problems

People with cardiac problems will be able to receive first aid in public spaces, until the arrival of emergency crews, with the help of semi-automatic defibrillators. Almost 400 such devices will be available in the country. 100 are already installed in the capital in 13 metro stations and in other heavily trafficked areas, such as the Bucharest National Theatre, the Romanian Athenaeum, the Romanian Opera and in supermarkets. Two are also available from today at the headquarters of the Romanian Broadcasting Society. The head of DSU, Raed Arafat, declares that it is the most extensive process of equipping with semi-automatic defibrillators.
Raed Arafat: It's a major step. It is not a simple defibrillator. It has a pulse oximeter, it has electrodes that, if inserted, transmit the EKG to the dispatcher. It has a voltage device, if it is put on and pressed, it transmits. That's why we train the people around it, because it's a mini-first aid station. It's not just for cardiac arrest. It can give more details to the dispatcher. If they save a life, all these defibrillators have already completed their cost-effectiveness.
Raed Arafat announced, today, on Radio Romania, that they are working on a draft law to determine under what conditions the obligation to equip some institutions with semi-automatic defibrillators is established.
