Labour Day brings new layoffs at the factory Electroputere Craiova.
Since Wednesday, 350 employees left without jobs and the government says that layoffs will continue in the future.
Due to the orders diminishing, the factory management is required to reduce a part of costs in order to deal with competition.
The general manager of Electroputere, Adrian Dumitriu said that despite the massive restructuring process, developed over recent years, at the factory from Craiova is still, in need of layoffs.
We are affected by what crisis means. In addition, we are affected by excess staff structure.
We have a competitor for power transformers in Italy that with 350 people, sells power transformers of 100 million Euros, said Adrian Dumitriu.
Discussions between the shareholders and the union were not able to stop this new wave of dismissals, but to halve the number of those who will leave this factory.
According to the union leader from Electroputere, Aurel Bojenoiu, people dismissed will receive severance payments between five to nine, depending on seniority.
“If the two major divisions – “Transformers” and “Engines” have reduced their production, it is absolutely imperative that their interface to be thinned at the number of employees, said Aurel Bojenoiu.
Electroputere Craiova plant was put up for sale in 2001, being taken in 2007 by Saudi company Al-Arrab Contracting Company Limited.
