2018 Winter Olympic Games (23rd edition) at PyeongChang, South Korea, so called the 'Peace Games', ended on February 25 with a spectacular ceremony attended by representatives of all 93 participating countries in an atmosphere of joy and celebration.
International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach named the Olympic Games of PyeongChang 2018 as “the games of new horizons", since these Olympic Winter Games have introduced new events that appeal to new generations and digital technology has enabled more people in more countries to see winter sports in more ways.
IOC President praised the athletes for being an example to the world. "You have shown how sport brings people together in our fragile world; you have shown how sport builds bridges. The IOC will continue this Olympic dialogue, even after we extinguish the Olympic flame. In this, we are driven by our faith in the future", he said.
During a most impressive Closing Ceremony, Romanian Olympic Teamwas headed to the Olympic Stadium in PyeongChang by Raluca Stramaturaru, who proudly wore the Romanian flag after scoring Romania's best performance, on February 13, with her 7th place in women's luge.
Stramaturaru ranked 8th in the first run, 12th in the second run, 9th in the 3rd run and 6th in the last run, scoring 3 min 06 sec 288/1000.
Second best Romanian result at PyeongChang was the 10th place obtained by the luge team relay race (Raluca Stramaturaru, Valentin Cretu, Cosmin Atodiresei / Stefan Musei).
Third performance of the Romanian delegation at the OG 2018 was recorded at the biathlon, where the 4x7,5 km male relay race (Cornel Dumitru Puchianu, George Razvan Buta, Gheorghe Iulian Pop, Nicolae Remus Faur) finished 14th.

Closing ceremony of the 2018 Winter Olympics was held at the Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium on 25 February 2018, as Thomas Bach, the IOC president, declared the Games closed. IOC President Thomas Bach, accompanied by Shim Jae-kook and Jining Chen – respective Mayors of PyeongChang County and Beijing (CHN) – handed over the Olympic flag from the 2018 host city to its 2022 counterparts.
Next edition of the Olympic Winter Games will take place in Beijing in 2022.
