On October, next year, a population and housing census will be carried out in Romania.
‘The Romanian census must be conducted at the same time with all the EU member states in order to make a correct evaluation of the population, at a national and European level,’ stated president of the National Statistics Institute Vergil Voineagu.
‘For us, as a country, but especially as an EU member state, conducting the census is not only a necessity, but an obligation according to the regulation issued in this respect by the European Commission and adopted by the European Parliament and the European Council in July 2008 ,’ added Vergil Voineagu.
The total cost of the census is estimated at almost 50 million euros.
The first results will be received in March 2012, the first preliminary data in June 2012, and the final results will be made public by 2013.
