‘Out of 182 hospitals, 111 are liable to be merged and 71 to be turned into senior nursing homes or permanent assistance units’, the minister added.
He stated that the health care personnel working in the units that will be reorganised will not be laid off.
The employees of these hospitals will either be transferred to other units in the county or will work in the new senior nursing homes.
Health Minister Cseke Atilla stated that ten hospitals were closed down at the end of 2010, five in Dâmboviţa, two in Bihor, two in Bucharest and one in Argeş.
He added that the reorganisation of these hospitals has been determined on how necessary it is to keep them functioning.
According to the minister, the decision to reorganise the health care units has not been on financial grounds.
