Brexit, EU relationship with Turkey in the light of the latest developments in Syria and the Multiannual budget of the European Union are among main issues on the Agenda of the 17-18 European Council in Brussels.
RRA Special Envoy to Brussels, Amalia Bojescu: "Brexit tops the agenda of the summit, and European leaders hope that the exit of Great Britain from the EU can be finalized with an agreement to reach an amicable separation on 31 October. Talks between London and Brussels focus on two sensitive issues, how to avoid returning to a border between Ireland (EU Member State), and Northern Ireland (part of the United Kingdom) while establishing customs controls, and the right to approval granted to the Northern Irish authorities on the Brexit agreement, which EU Member States do not want. Regardless of the outcome of the talks, the EU calls for vigilance regarding the future of trade relations with London. Agenda also includes the Multiannual budget, combatting climate change, EU enlargement, as well as EU relationship with Turkey.
Romania is represented by President Klaus Iohannis, who will stress the importance of ensuring an orderly withdrawal of Great Britain from the European Union. As for the future financial framework, Romanian Head of State will advocate for an ambitious budget, capable of achieving the objectives of the European Union's strategic agenda, with significant allocations for cohesion policy and the common agricultural policy".
