Bucharest hosts, during 2-6 September, the 12th International Congress of South-East European Studies, organized by The Romanian National Committee of South-East European Studies ‒ Romanian Academy. Main topic is “Political, Social and Religious Dynamics in South-East Europe”, from ancient to present times, according to Professor Alexandre Kostov, correspondent member of the Sofia Academy of Sciences and President of the International Association of South-East European Studies.
Professor Alexandre Kostov: This topic is very important both for South-Eastern European history and on a larger international scale. Our association of Southeast European studies was created in 1963, at a time of great confrontations during the Cold War, to overcome divisions between the Balkan nations, but also to encourage research of specialists in this area. Over the last 56 years, the association has shown that it has played an important role, despite uncertainties of history and political changes. Today, the situation of states in the area is clear, but it is no less important for humanistic researchers to show that those who are here are still a large family that continues to defend the application of universal criteria in academic research. And we are related to the historical fact and the objective interpretation of events and processes of all kinds, in all the 35 sections of our congress.
