Children are in the centre of attention today, but in the context of the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, this year there are no special events for them. However, they can go to parks, museums or zoos, following some rules of physical distancing.
Children's Day is a national holiday in Romania and also a non working day. Countries around the world have chosen other calendar dates to celebrate children, depending on their own history.
Children's Day was first marked in 1956, two years after the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution requiring all states to pay special attention to children.
The head of state, Klaus Iohannis, says he appreciates the children's efforts during this pandemic, in which they stayed away from colleagues and friends. He welcomes their extraordinary efforts to adapt to online school, understanding that education remains important.
The president thanks them for being understanding and for protecting their parents and especially their grandparents, who are the most vulnerable to the virus and wishes success to those who will have exams.
