Statue of Iancu de Hunedoara inaugurated in Zemun, Serbia
Unveiling ceremony has been attended by Serbian and Hungarian Presidents, Aleksandar Vucic and János Áder.

Serbian and Hungarian Presidents, Aleksandar Vucic and János Áder, have attended, on Monday, unveiling ceremony of the statue of Iancu de Hunedoara, in Zemun, near Belgrade, Serbia.
Iancu de Hunedoara devoted his entire life to defending the homeland from the Ottoman army, and after the Belgrade victory of the troops led by him, peace and reconstruction began – said President of Hungary, János Áder, according to Hungarian News Agency MTI.
Áder drew attention to the fact that above the statue there are two symbolic objects that can be seen. "The cross - which represents the sacrifice made by this legendary leader for the defense of Europe, and the bell - that proclaims European solidarity and triumphal victory obtained under the leadership of Iancu de Hunedoara", Hungarian President pointed out.
When danger was approaching Belgrade, in the summer of 1456, Iancu de Hunedoara arrived with his naval fleet in the Zemun region on the Danube, where he won the Battle of Belgrade. His statue is now located in the place where victory took place, János Áder also said.
Bronze statue representing Iancu de Hunedoara has been build based on design and conception of Kossuth laureate sculptor István Madarassy.
